The Johnsons releases latest single, “Trail Ride to Heaven”
Hailing from East Texas, Jerry and Sheila Johnson—known as The Johnsons (Duo)—are creating a new sound with a unique blend of music, a genre they call Inspirational Southern Soul. Sheila was born and raised in Tyler, Texas, while Jerry grew up in the small town of Bullard, Texas. After their marriage, they settled in Tyler, where they continue to craft their heartfelt and uplifting sound.
Music has always been a cornerstone of The Johnsons' lives. Sheila’s earliest inspiration came from her mother, a quartet singer who instilled in her a deep love for gospel music. Dorothy Norwood, a renowned gospel artist, also played a crucial role in shaping Sheila’s vocal style, as she and her mother often performed Norwood’s songs in church. Jerry, on the other hand, was deeply influenced by legendary acts like The Staple Singers, Sam Cooke, and The Temptations. His father’s musical passion also played a significant role in his development. Together, Jerry and Sheila draw from a rich heritage of gospel and Christian music, blending it into their signature Inspirational Southern Soul sound. The Johnsons' latest single, Trail Ride to Heaven, is a fun spiritual song that merges soulful melodies with an uplifting message. The song is part of their new album, Yahweh, which showcases their ability to blend faith based music with a rhythmic beat.
For The Johnsons, making music is all about joy and connection. When crafting Trail Ride to Heaven, they envisioned a celebration—gathering with family and friends, dancing, and embracing the anticipation of the rapture. The beat was the foundation; once they found the right rhythm, the lyrics came naturally, flowing effortlessly into a song that conveys both excitement and spiritual yearning. Every song has its defining moment, and for Trail Ride to Heaven, it was the moment they finalized the beat. As soon as the rhythm clicked, they knew they had found the perfect sound to carry their message. The rest of the song came together seamlessly, a testament to their shared passion and deep connection to their faith.

At its core, "Trail Ride to Heaven" is about the ultimate journey—the journey to heaven. The Johnsons paint a vivid picture of the rapture as a joyous trail ride, inviting listeners to imagine themselves riding toward eternal glory. Their goal is to inspire people to embrace their faith and look forward to a heavenly reunion with the Father. The Johnsons have been making an impact through live performances as well; they recently appeared on Bobby Jones Presents, a prestigious gospel music showcase filmed in Nashville, Tennessee. In January, they performed and hosted the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration in Tyler, Texas, bringing their uplifting music to their home community. Looking ahead, The Johnsons are set to perform alongside Canton Jones at the world-renowned South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas, on March 15. This performance marks a significant milestone in their career, allowing them to share their Inspirational Southern Soul with an even broader audience.
