Philadelphia based rapper-singer Ivy Sole drops the video for "Lovely Fiction," the opening track from her full length debut, OVERGROWN. It is a meditation on motherhood, about the fears of raising a Black child in America and finding love despite that. In thinking about how motherhood manifests, the video shows three relationships, particularly giving light to estranged relationships.

Ivy explains, "I reached out with the idea of filming my friend Auri & her daughter Oma for this video, and I was so happy that we could connect on something that showcased their love. She also pays homage to her mother who she lost but accompanies her with each moment, particularly as she grows as a mother herself."

"My friend Afaq shared her story with me, about how she's often a caretaker alongside and in place of her mother. Though she feels connected to her, she'd like to break some of the chains of generational trauma and heartache that her mother carries with her, signified by the red yarn binding her to herself and her memories."

Ivy continues, "The last vignette showcases Philly's own Kai Davis and her mother Erin, whose love often comes in the form of warmth and food. Kai has a recipe of her mother's tattooed on her arm, and they are seen making it together in their home in Germantown."

The video ends with Ivy's own Mama reciting a verse from the Bible and encouraging her to "find where you can bloom, baby."

It is the first in a weekly video series on YouTube dubbed "FEMMETAPE FRIDAY" that will continue with freestyles featuring both originals and beats from some of her favorite classics.

Ivy will release THE FEMMETAPE, a mixtape out mid-July, and leading up to the release, she tours the West Coast co-headlining with R&B tinged pop singer-songwriter-producer Parisalexa (Seattle, WA) and eclectic R&B jazz singer Blossom (Portland, OR). The project is a celebration and uplifting of femme voices. As with the tour of the same name, the mixtape will feature both Parisalexa and Blossom in addition to a host of other femme artists and producers to be announced at a future date.Catch The FEMMETAPE Tour:
