By remaining independent, influential multiplatinum producer and songwriter Teddy Walton makes his own rules and moves. He continues to leave a lasting imprint on the game with instantly recognizable hits for everyone from Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky to Post Malone and Bryson Tiller.

“I’m trying to do everything by myself as an independent creator,” he affirms. “I’m basically a free agent, but I’m reaching for the top of the mainstream. I want to show everybody it’s possible to do this without a major co-sign, A&R, or company behind you. You can carve out your own lane and stay in this forever. I work with whoever I want to work with and whenever I want to work. That keeps the creativity flowing. It’s really that simple.”

Inspired by Pharrell, Timbaland, Noah “40” Shebib, and Soulja Boy, he developed a singular style, generating a buzz and enthusiasm which spread throughout the industry for Teddy's innovative hybrid of modern energy and classic sounds. That aesthetic proved seminal to A$AP Rocky’s chart-topping gold-certified AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP as Teddy produced the standout “Electric Body” [feat. ScHoolboy Q]. In 2017, Teddy produced Goldlink’s double-platinum “Crew” [feat. Shy Glizzy & Brent Faiyaz], the quadruple-platinum “LOVE” [feat. Zacari] from Kendrick Lamar’s era-defining triple-platinum magnum opus DAMN, Jay Rock’s double-platinum “King’s Dead” [feat. Kendrick Lamar, Future, James Blake] and Zacari’s “Redemption” [feat. Babes Wodumo] for Black Panther: The Album.

In the end, Teddy inspires by remaining independent. “It’s important to believe in yourself,” he leaves off. “I want to be an example that anything is possible.”
