Flo Kwassi confronts her "Monsters" compelling lead single
Music can be theraputic for fans. A song often speaks to particular situation, or emotion. Music can remind a person of an experience and that them back to a moment in time. Music can heal by providing the words we often can't say and allow us to get through painful or difficult times in our lives.
What is true for fans is also true for the artists who create music. Those artists experience the love, loss, betrayal or fear. French Canadian singer/songwriter Flo Kawassi uses the music on her three track EP entitled "Monsters." The title track and an intensly personal, art house video are out now.
"Monsters" fuses techno, pop and R&B in a way that creates a pounding and urgent arrangement that serves as a contrast to Kwassi's angelic vocals that float above the beat. That contast highlights "Monster" theme of internal conflct of someone who is simultaneously moving away and toward that they want, but that might not be good for them.
Kwassi said that "Monsters" inspiration comes from an intensly personal place:
"I feel like I wasn’t really ever able to even stand. To set my feet on the ground. Like everything is slippery. It leaves a sting and a feeling of imprisonment. Of forced silence. But it is always in my darkest moments that I find lights. Through toxic relationship, betrayal, and addiction, I found strength and I found love. I know it can sound super kitsch, but it is what it is. Everything always begins from that place”.
