Here at The Urban Influencer, we love to highlight music industry "big wigs," corporate America execs, successful entrepreneurs, and small business owners.

Today (Oct. 6 ), we spotlight Joe Dodd, Manager of Music Programming at Vevo; he's the engine behind what gets greenlit for the popular video hosting service. In this Q&A, learn about what makes this "head honcho" tick.

What's your profession/title?

Manager of Music Programming at Vevo.

How did you get started?

I have always been fascinated with music. That fascination started at a very young age and developed into me putting that love into action. I moved to NYC a week after getting my bachelor’s degree and have been working in the Music industry ever since. Before then it was internships and school.

What's a normal workday like for you?

A normal workday includes me scheduling music videos, originals, and playlists to be featured across Vevo’s various platforms. Adding music videos to be highlighted in our playlists. Participating in various music meetings. Last but not least, watching almost every music video submitted.

What's the most enjoyable part of your career?

I would say giving artists exposure along with breaking new artists. I also enjoy creating enjoyable music experiences for consumers.

What's the least enjoyable?

24 hours is not enough time in the day for me to digest music and do everything that I would like to do musically.

What are you most proud of in your career?

I would say answering questions like these and being featured on music/lifestyle websites like this one!

Who are your role models/mentors?

There are a few people that I have learned from and am constantly learning from:

Justin Prager

Damon Williams

Luis Rivera

Tiffany McPherson

Mike Herald

Plus, many more outside of programming that know who they are.

What advice do you have for those who want to pursue a career in that field?

Be realistic with your goals and expectations. Always be willing to listen, learn, and soak up new information. Stay adaptable because the industry is always evolving.
