Endometriosis is a highly common condition in which the tissue intended to cover the uterus grows outside of it, leading to pelvic pain and infertility. Although the condition affects over 200,000 American women each year, it often goes unaddressed. Celebrities are now hoping to use their star power to spread awareness.

Lena Dunham has revealed this month that she had her uterus removed through a hysterectomy and can no longer carry a child. The actress says that she always dreamed of having children, but now she intends to use her experience to advocate adoption.

Julianne Hough has also come forward with her struggle with endometriosis and is collaborating closely with AbbVie on its “Get in the know about Me in endoMEtriosis” campaign.

Other celebrities allying to promote awareness include Padma Lakshmi, Daisy Ridley, Monica, Tia Mowry-Hardrict, and Halsey, who are urging women to see their doctors regularly and get their hormones tested.
