After many years of being out of print on CD, 12” single, LP & cassette, Abstrac’s “Right and Hype”, where they yearn to meet a genuine guy who is all the way hype, is available to stream on Apple Music, Spotify, TikTok and more. It's also available to download on iTunes and Amazon.

Abstrac’ was a female trio, a rarity for the New Jack Swing era of the late '80s to early '90s. From left to right, the group's members were Alvina “Topaz” Del Bettis, Marsha McClurkin, and Mary Brown.

Their single launched at record stores in September 1989 and started charting in October. Their song peaked at #25 on Cash Box’s Top R&B Singles Chart for the week of Saturday, December 30, 1989. On Billboard, their single carried over to the new year and peaked at #23 for three weeks on their Hot Black Singles Chart, starting for the week of Saturday, January 6, 1990.

Their song was written and produced by Gene Griffin and Markell Riley, and mixed by Teddy Riley and Gene Griffin for GR Productions. Both the single and album were released on Reprise Records.

If you are a fan of New Jack Swing, you are sure to enjoy this rare jam in all its slammin’ glory!
