Tsharna says it’s About That Time on sensual debut EP
Tsharna captured the attention of fans and influencers alike with her cover versions of hit songs that she posted on You Tube. Her covers of tunes such as Tamia’s “So Into You” showcased a singer with tremendous range and control of her vocal instrument who could handle intimate acoustic version of Tamia’s song with ease.
Now, the Luton, England native drops her eagerly anticipated EP “About That Time,” that showcases her songwriting, composing and storytelling skills on the five tracks that show how a woman’s relationship expectations grow and evolve over time. Over the course of five tunes, Tsharna moves from someone who naively gets involved in a manipulative and unequal relationship where she wonders if the man shares her feelings on “Think About Me” to a woman who has learned what a mutually loving and respectful relationship looks like and feels like. She names those qualities on the percussive ballad “For Life.”
Speaking of the inspiration for the album Tsharna says: “I used the phrase ‘About That Time…’ because I frequently relive these moments in my head as if it were a diary. I prefer to think of these songs as a representation of those experiences, and the title is recalling those moments of my life. The title also has another meaning for me – it’s like I’m in a big music hall listening to the DJ introduce each new song for the night. When you hear them say, ‘alright it’s about that time we slow things down’, you just know the rest of the night is about to be nothing but R&B. In this case, I’m the DJ, I’m the storyteller providing a look into my world”.
Music has had a hold on Tsharna since youth. She grew up listening to reggae, soca and dancehall and began writing poetry at the age of eight. She names legends such as Etta James and Whitney Houston has influences and their inspiration soon prompted her to move from writing poetry to songs. Check out “About That Time” here.
