Soultress Kristina Murrell asks her lover for transparency on Is It Real
When a person is ready to make that leap into a relationship, they want to know one thing. Is the other person willing and ready to make the dive? That is the question that Kristina Murrell demands an answer to on her latest single “Is It Real.” Murrell combines the best of the old and the new on this track. The arrangement sports all the sheen of contemporary R&B paired with lyrics that express the kind of vulnerability and calls for commitment and honesty that old school R&B/soul music lovers came to expect in their music.
Murrell’s vocals definitely lean toward the classic sound. The Barbados native has a mature and polished sound. She is in not shy about using her entire vocal range that allows her to use her vocal instrument to express the urgency of the moment. The track tells the story of a meeting that is about take place between two people and the vocalist who is ready to totally involve herself into this relationship wants to make sure the man coming to her house has the same agenda. The track has a conversational vibe, but it is the kind of conversation that people have when one or both have some skin in the game.
Murrell was born in Barbados but moved to the United States at the age of 15 to pursue her education. It didn’t take long for her talent to be discovered by record producer and songwriter Sonny King who had her in for an audition with Music For Love, which is a record level and charity organization. Murrell is multi-talented and super focused. She’s established a successful modeling career and his pursuing her studies in business as a college student. She will definitely have options because I think this music thing might just work out.
