Coco Benson and Shizzi pay honor to the power of women in Majesty
Coco Benson's skill and comfort with the sounds of West Africa comes honestly. She is the granddaughter of Nigerian Highlife legend Bobby Benson and paid homage to her grandad with a reimagination of his classic tune "Taxi Driver."
However, Coco Benson has never been content to simply bask in the glow of Bobby Benson. Coco carved her own path when she came out the box with cuts like "The Call Me Coco" in 2014. But real life intervened and the Michigan born, Zurich raised and now Atlanta based Benson had to step away from the game to take care of her family.
She has returned with the infectious Afro-house cut "Majesty." Joined by her husband and executive producer Shizzi, this summer-ready club banger brims with club ready beats and a message of empowerment that showcases the game changing power that women bring to whatever task is at hand.
Or as Coco Benson puts it: "Women do it all, women are the backbone to a lot of great things, and this track pays homage to women and speaks to empowering women. I wanted to create a song that every woman or girl could relate to, we are all ‘Majesty’ to someone and it’s something to embrace."
The accompanying video for this track affirms that women can handle being royal and sensual. Shot in Accra, Ghana, the video for "Majesty" is a reminder that all women should be treated as royalty.
