In this exclusive interview, Ann Nesby discusses the inspiration behind “AMEN,” the importance of faith in her life, her remarkable musical journey, and the message she hopes listeners carry with them.

1. “AMEN” is officially out now. What does this release mean to you personally, and what are you feeling now that listeners can finally experience the song?

ANN NESBY: “AMEN” is very special to me because it is more than just a song. It is a declaration of faith. I’m grateful that it is finally out and available for people to hear because I believe the message is needed. There are so many people going through challenges right now, and I want them to know that they are not alone. Sometimes all you can say is “Amen” because you know God is still working, even when you cannot see the outcome.

2. What was the initial inspiration behind “AMEN”? Was there a particular moment or experience that sparked the song?

ANN NESBY: The inspiration came from the reality that life can be challenging for all of us. We all experience moments when we question what is happening or wonder how we are going to get through something. But my faith has taught me that those are the moments when you have to hold on even tighter. “AMEN” came from that place of knowing that God is faithful and that we have to keep believing.

3. The song carries such a strong message of perseverance. What do you want someone who is struggling to hear when they listen to “AMEN”?

ANN NESBY: I want them to hear, “Don’t give up.” Whatever you are facing, it is not the end of your story. You may be in a difficult chapter, but that does not mean the book is over. Keep praying, keep believing and keep moving forward. There is still purpose in your life.

4. How has your faith guided you throughout your personal life and your incredible music career?

ANN NESBY: My faith has been my foundation. There have been doors that opened that I know I could not have opened on my own, and there have also been disappointments and difficult seasons that taught me to trust God even more. My career has had many highs and lows, but through everything, my faith has remained constant.

5. You have had an extraordinary career, from your time with Sounds of Blackness to your successful solo career. When you look back, what moments stand out as defining points in your journey?

ANN NESBY: There are so many moments that I am grateful for. Being part of Sounds of Blackness and experiencing the success of songs like “Optimistic” was incredibly meaningful. Winning Grammys was a tremendous honor. Then, having the opportunity to establish myself as a solo artist and continue creating music has been another blessing. Every chapter has contributed to who I am today.

6. Sounds of Blackness introduced your voice to millions of people. How did that experience shape the artist you became?

ANN NESBY: Sounds of Blackness taught me so much about discipline, musicianship, teamwork and the power of a message. We weren't just singing songs; we were communicating something to people. That experience helped me understand that music can reach people in places that sometimes words alone cannot.

7. “AMEN” was written and produced by Robert “RL” Huggar of NEXT and Brian “B-Flat” Cook. What was it like working with them on this project?

ANN NESBY: It was a wonderful experience. There is a level of trust that develops when you work with talented people who understand your voice and understand the message you are trying to communicate. Robert and Brian brought a beautiful creative energy to the song, and I am grateful for what we created together.

8. You have successfully moved between gospel, soul and R&B throughout your career. What allows you to remain authentic across different musical genres?

ANN NESBY: For me, it always comes back to the message and the emotion. I don't believe you have to put yourself in one box. Music is about connecting with people. Whether I am singing gospel, soul or R&B, I want people to feel something and hopefully leave inspired.

9. After so many years in the music industry, what continues to motivate you creatively?

ANN NESBY: The opportunity to touch someone's life. When someone tells me that a song helped them get through a difficult time, that means everything to me. As long as I have something meaningful to say and God gives me the strength and opportunity to share it, I want to continue making music.

10. What does the word “Amen” mean to Ann Nesby beyond the title of this song?

ANN NESBY: “Amen” is agreement. It is saying, “Yes, I believe.” It is also an expression of gratitude. When I say “Amen,” I am acknowledging that God is greater than whatever I may be facing. It is a powerful word because it represents faith, trust and confirmation.

11. Your voice has inspired generations. What do you believe is the responsibility of an artist who has been blessed with a platform?

ANN NESBY: I believe we have a responsibility to use our gifts wisely. We have the ability to influence people, so I want my influence to be positive. I want to encourage people, inspire them and remind them that they have purpose. Fame is temporary, but the impact you make on someone's life can last forever.

12. What would you say to someone who feels like their prayers have not been answered?

ANN NESBY: Don't stop praying. Don't stop believing. Sometimes the answer does not come when we expect it, and sometimes the answer looks different from what we imagined. But that does not mean God is not listening. Keep your faith. Keep going. Your story is still being written.

13. After decades of success, what does legacy mean to you now?

ANN NESBY: Legacy means what you leave in people's hearts. I want people to remember me not only for the songs I recorded or the awards I received, but for the encouragement I gave them. If my music helped someone believe again, smile again or keep going, then I have accomplished something meaningful.

14. What do you hope listeners take away from “AMEN” after hearing it?

ANN NESBY: I hope they walk away encouraged. I hope they remember that no matter what they are facing, they should never give up. I want them to know that there is still hope, there is still purpose and there is still a reason to believe.

15. Finally, Ann, complete this sentence: “When I say AMEN, I am saying…”

ANN NESBY: “When I say AMEN, I am saying I believe. I trust God. I am grateful. And I know that no matter what happens, He is still in control.”
