About Slime Kings

Slime Kings were formed in 2008 in Costa Mesa California shortly after the dissolution of hardcore punk band DSNF, with the only new member being Mike Wolfe on drums. They lived and rehearsed at the only house in the industrial district, coincidentally with legendary surf board shaper Robin Kegel (Gato Heroi), and the keyboard player of the then up and coming Growlers.

They could not have been more different than the scene happening around them. While the Growlers got bigger and bigger, along with a sea of other bands in a kind of neo-hippy movement (My Pet Saddle, The Grand Elegance, Japanese Motors, etc.), Slime Kings were there with Mohawks and cheetah print pants, inspired by Operation Ivy, The Specials, and Bad Brains. They threw the only punk shows in the area at the (now defunct) Evocal Art Collective.

Singer Kyle Molina left the group to pursue a more hard core approach with Modern Enemy, and was replaced by Eric Jimenez, and the final line up was complete, Mike Wolfe on drums, Max Patterson on bass, Adam Merchain on lead guitar, and Eric Jimenez on rhythm guitar and vocals.

They recorded their first E.P., simply titled Slime Kings, at the Growlers studio with their then bass player Scott Montoya at the controls, and have since grown and evolved into a monster, both on and off stage, making the top five in the OCMA’s Best Live Band competition, and opening for acts as large (and varied) as Dwayne Peters, Robbie Krieger, Reel Big Fish, Left Alone, and the Untouchables.

Their songs and influences range from funk, to rock and roll, to punk, ska, reggae, and everything in between, and from the stage to the headphones you can expect high energy and hooks that stick in your head for years to come.
