Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Sam Hankins has spent years building a sound that blends jazz, funk, R&B, soul, contemporary jazz, and smooth jazz into one unique musical experience. Performing under the name Sam Hankins Project, he continues to create music that moves across genres while staying true to the heart of jazz. After living in Chicago for more than 20 years, Hankins later moved to Los Angeles where he now works as a high school band director, professional trumpeter, and music composer. His long journey through music has been shaped by personal experiences and legendary artists who inspired him from a young age.

Hankins credits his father as his biggest musical influence. As a child, he would attend performances with him and watch him play at family gatherings and local events. Those early memories introduced him to the power of live music and the way it could bring people together. He also remembers the first time hearing Louis Armstrong, a moment that deeply changed his life and inspired him to pursue the trumpet. The influence of Clark Terry also helped shape his musical style, especially through Terry’s tone and freedom of expression.

His latest album, ‘Alright’, features vocals from his niece Jackie Michaels along with collaborations from several talented musicians. Alongside the album, Hankins also released his newest single, “Easy Living”, a smooth jazz instrumental now available on all major streaming platforms. When creating “Easy Living,” Hankins wanted to capture feelings of joy, peace, and relaxation. Inspired by life’s simple and happy moments, he aimed to create music that could help listeners escape stress and enjoy a sense of calm.
