Raaddrr-Van and DJ Nino Carta Celebrate Hip Hop Culture With New Single "Wu-Pledge"
Raaddrr-Van, also known as Van Politics, and DJ Nino Carta join forces on their latest single, “Wu-Pledge,” produced by Da Red Jacket Killah. The collaboration brings together two artists with a strong connection to the roots and culture of hip-hop. Raaddrr-Van, who is from Michigan and East New York, creates Hip-Hop and Boom Bap music influenced by artists such as Just-Ice, Mantronix, T-La Rock, Big Daddy Kane, and Rakim. DJ Nino Carta, who represents the Bronx and Brooklyn, has been influenced by legendary DJs including DJ Red Alert, Kool Herc, DJ Premier, and Grandmaster Flash. His musical influences also include Public Enemy, N.W.A., A Tribe Called Quest, Cypress Hill, the Geto Boys, Rakim, KRS-One, Too Short, and Big Daddy Kane.
“Wu-Pledge” has a story that goes back to 2014 when DJ Nino Carta and Raaddrr-Van first worked on the record. After years of keeping a library of unreleased music, DJ Nino Carta felt the time was finally right to bring the song to listeners. The original beat could not be cleared, creating a major challenge for the team. Instead of giving up, Da Red Jacket Killah produced a new Boom Bap beat that matched the energy of the song. Raaddrr-Van recorded his verse again, DJ Nino Carta added his own verse, and the track was completed with help from Capitol Mixer Recording. The single went on to reach number nine on the Apple iTunes Hip-Hop Chart.
Rooted in the sound of 1990s Boom Bap, “Wu-Pledge” delivers a head nodding groove while celebrating the lasting power of hip-hop. Raaddrr-Van and DJ Nino Carta wanted to create a record that would make people move, enjoy themselves, and connect with the music. The collaboration also represents their belief that challenges do not have to stop a good record from being released. With “Wu-Pledge,” the duo continues to honor hip-hop's history while bringing their own energy to the culture.
