Jenny JAM Introduces new single “Toy Proof”
Jenny JAM brings together soul, pop, jazz, blues, and personal storytelling through music shaped by movement, change, and lived experience. Originally from London, she has spent the past decade living in the United States, with time in Los Angeles, New York, and Hawaii. Although she continues to return to London several times a year, her experiences across different places have become an important part of her artistic identity. Her stage name, Jenny JAM, comes from her initials. JAM represents Jennifer Anne Moxham, combining her first name, middle name, and surname. Outside of music, she uses her full name, Jennifer Moxham, for her work as an actor and producer in film.
Jenny JAM describes her sound as soul pop, drawing heavily from the expressive qualities of soul, jazz, and blues. Her time in Hawaii has also influenced her creatively, particularly through her appreciation for the islands' natural surroundings, people, reggae culture, and relaxed atmosphere. She hopes to explore reggae more directly in her future music and collaborate with an artist whose sound complements that direction.
Her musical influences span several generations and styles. George Michael has been particularly significant to her, both for his voice and melodic approach. Freddie Mercury's command of the stage has influenced the energy she brings to live performances, while Nina Simone's vocal depth and dramatic interpretation have informed the way Jenny approaches emotional expression through song. She also draws inspiration from Billie Eilish, whose distinctive songwriting, melodies, and vocal choices have captured her attention. Rather than limiting herself to one musical tradition, Jenny JAM finds inspiration across a wide range of artists and genres.
Her upcoming album, ‘Trains, Planes & Airports’, is scheduled for release on October 9th. The project reflects a life shaped by constant movement, with songs written across different cities, continents, and personal chapters. The album's title captures that sense of transition while connecting the individual experiences behind the music. At the center of the project is Jenny's belief that difficult experiences can eventually lead to something positive.
The album's leading single, ‘Toy Proof’, offers one of the clearest examples of how personal experience has influenced her songwriting. The song was created during an especially difficult period in Jenny's life while she was caring for her mother in England following her mother's bone marrow transplant for leukemia. During that same period, Jenny experienced the end of a relationship at a time when she needed emotional support. Because of her mother's lack of immunity, Jenny was also living under strict lockdown conditions, moving between the hospital and the hospital apartment with no opportunity to spend time with friends.
For Jenny, songwriting became a way to process what was happening around her. She describes music as an escape and a form of therapy, particularly during stressful periods. The chorus for Toy Proof arrived unexpectedly while she was driving through the city to pick up her mother from the hospital. The melody and lyrics came to her suddenly, prompting her to pull over and record the idea on her phone. Although she had not planned to write a song about the heartbreak she was experiencing, the idea developed naturally and the remainder of the song followed.
‘Toy Proof’ transforms that experience into a statement about personal boundaries and resilience. Its central message focuses on refusing to allow another person's actions to determine one's sense of worth. The song's chorus, including the line "You shot me, but I won't fall," reflects the emotional shift from being hurt to recognizing personal strength. Rather than remaining defined by what happened, the song establishes a clear boundary around how much control another person is allowed to have. With ‘Trains, Planes & Airports’ approaching its release, Jenny JAM is preparing to bring the project to the stage. Her album launch show is scheduled for October 15th at 8pm at The Pheasantry, Pizza Express Live in Chelsea, London. The performance will give audiences an opportunity to experience the music behind the album in a live setting.
