As former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello enjoys the success of her single "Havana" and preps the release of her self-titled solo debut LP for tomorrow (Jan. 12), she's publicly revealing just why she went solo in the first place.

Her split from the group ruffled the feathers of many Fifth Harmony fans, but in her interview with the New York Times, Cabello tells all about her solo split. According to her, there were tensions in the group when she broke away to do a duet titled “I Know What You Did Last Summer" with Shawn Mendes in 2015, and felt like she didn't have creative control in the group when she wanted to write songs and was blocked from doing so.

Cabello said she wanted to work on her solo project while still in the group but received backlash.

“It became clear that it was not possible to do solo stuff and be in the group at the same time,” she said. "...If anyone wants to explore their individuality, it’s not right for people to tell you no,” she told the New York Times.

The group officially disbanded in December 2016. Read the entire NYT interview HERE.
