Marvel’s Black Panther has been advertised prolifically, and it has certainly delivered on the hype. After its initial opening, Black Panther has broken multiple movie records.

In its initial weekend, Black Panther’s earnings are estimated to exceed $387 million internationally, nearly doubling the film’s budget. With $192 million in North American sales alone over its first three days, it is the fifth largest opening of all time.

The movie, directed by Ryan Coogler, has also broken the record for the largest opening for a black director, formerly held by F. Gary Gray for The Fate of the Furious.

It overwhelmingly smashed Deadpool’s $132 million to become the largest February open and is the second largest Marvel opening behind 2012’s The Avengers.

The Black Panther soundtrack debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart with 154,000 earned album units, making it the most successful soundtrack since Suicide Squad.

Black Panther currently has an A+ CinemaScore and 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
