BEHIND THE FILM: Robbie Love and Juewett Bostick Talk “GET IN THE CAR,” Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Independent Music
In a creative collaboration that brings together music, technology and visual storytelling, singer, songwriter and storyteller Robbie Love and acclaimed musician, producer and Nutbutton Inc. founder Juewett Bostick discuss “GET IN THE CAR,” the inspiration behind the satirical short film, the evolving landscape of independent music and the creative possibilities shaping the future of entertainment.
The film is scheduled for release in November 2026.
Q: “GET IN THE CAR” takes a creative and somewhat unconventional approach to telling a story about the independent music business. Robbie and Juewett, what inspired the concept behind the film?
Robbie Love: The inspiration came from wanting to tell a story that reflects some of the realities independent artists face. There are so many challenges involved in getting music heard, protecting your creative vision and finding the right people to help bring a project to life. We wanted to approach those experiences in an entertaining and unexpected way.
Juewett Bostick: We wanted to create something that would make people think while also entertaining them. The idea was to take a familiar situation in the music business and give it a cinematic treatment. The combination of satire, suspense and technology allowed us to tell that story differently.
Q: The film features a confrontation between a music executive, played by Jack Rafferty, and Kim Thick, the social media strategist behind Robbie Love’s campaign. What does that exchange represent?
Robbie Love: It represents the importance of standing firm in your creative vision. Independent artists depend on relationships and collaborations, but that doesn't mean they should surrender their identity or allow someone else to dictate their direction. Kim represents someone who understands her role and knows what she brings to the table.
Juewett Bostick: There is a power dynamic at play, and we wanted to exaggerate it through parody. The executive is loud and intimidating, while Kim remains composed. That contrast makes the scene entertaining, but it also communicates a serious point about creative control.
Q: Artificial intelligence is part of the film’s creative approach. Why was it important to incorporate this technology?
Robbie Love: Technology is changing how artists create and present their work. I think it is important to remain open to new tools while making sure the artistic vision stays at the center of the process.
Juewett Bostick: Artificial intelligence provides additional creative possibilities. We wanted to explore how it could be incorporated into a visual storytelling concept. It is not about replacing creativity. It is about expanding the ways we can develop and present ideas.
Q: Juewett, as founder of Nutbutton Inc., what does this project represent for the company?
Juewett Bostick: Nutbutton Inc. has always been interested in the intersection of music, design and technology. We look at entertainment as something that can extend beyond a traditional recording. “GET IN THE CAR” gives us an opportunity to explore another creative format and demonstrate how music projects can be presented through visual storytelling.
Q: Robbie, how does “GET IN THE CAR” connect with your Just Robbie EP?
Robbie Love: Just Robbie represents my music and the creative direction I want to share with listeners. The film adds another dimension to that project. It gives audiences a different way to engage with the music and the ideas surrounding it. I enjoy exploring different forms of expression, and this was an opportunity to do something outside the traditional music video format.
Q: Robbie, you are the daughter of acclaimed R&B and soul vocalist Mary Love. How has your musical upbringing influenced your own artistic journey?
Robbie Love: Growing up with that musical foundation gave me an appreciation for the importance of authenticity, expression and storytelling. My mother's legacy is part of my history, but I also recognize that I have my own voice and my own journey. I want my music to reflect who I am while honoring the influences that helped shape me.
Q: Your Just Robbie EP includes contributions from acclaimed jazz musicians Gary Bartz and Azar Lawrence. What did those collaborations mean to you?
Robbie Love: Having musicians of their caliber contribute to the project was meaningful. Their musical backgrounds and artistry bring a special dimension to the recordings. I appreciate the opportunity to work with artists whose contributions reflect the richness of jazz, R&B and soul.
Q: Juewett, Nutbutton Inc. has a history of working within soul, jazz and R&B. How have those musical influences shaped the company's creative direction?
Juewett Bostick: Those genres represent a strong musical foundation for the company. Soul, jazz and R&B have always offered tremendous opportunities for creativity and expression. Our goal has been to respect that foundation while remaining open to new ideas, new technology and different ways of presenting entertainment.
Q: Both of you have experience navigating the independent music landscape. What do you believe independent artists need most to succeed today?
Robbie Love: Artists need to understand their identity, know their audience and be intentional about the people they work with. Talent is important, but so is having a clear vision and being willing to explore different ways to connect with listeners.
Juewett Bostick: I would emphasize creativity, strategy and consistency. Independent artists have to think beyond simply recording music. They must consider how to present their work, build relationships and create opportunities for their projects to reach new audiences.
Robbie Love: I look forward to continuing to share my music and explore different creative opportunities. Just Robbie is an important part of my journey, and I am excited about the possibilities ahead.
Juewett Bostick: Nutbutton Inc. will continue exploring innovative approaches to music and entertainment. We believe there are many ways to bring creative ideas to life, and projects like this allow us to keep pushing those possibilities.
